Book Title:The Renaissance of Raising Black Boys
Authors: Mothers of Black Sons
Projected Release Date: 1st quarter 2023
From the moment the sole of a Black boys' foot grazed the bed of Amerikkka's soil, Black mothers have been intentional about keeping their sons close to their bosom. Having seen the carnage that their Black men had to endure at the hands of white men, Black mothers, worked tirelessly to protect and ensure that their sons would not suffer the same fate.
More than 150 years removed from slavery, today's Black mothers remain as fearful for their sons' safety. Four hundred years ago, it was the threat of a moral less-driven slave master. Four hundred later, Black mothers still fear for their sons, who are either victims of pro-violent cops or trauma-filled violent Black boys. In addition, their sons are often the victims of an educational and judicial INjustice system strategically and systematically marginalizing their sons. Black boys' voices have grown hoarse from years of going on unheard, and their spirit is scarred from being unseen.
The world has heard of the pain felt by mothers like Sybrina Fulton (Trayvon Martin), Lucy McBath (Jordan Davis), and Lesley McFadden (Michael Brown). Yet, the world most likely fails to realize an extraordinarily high percentage of mothers feel the pain felt by Fulton, McBath, and McFadden agonizing over how to keep their sons safe.
On March 19, 2020, Callista Casey released A Marginalized Voice: Devalued, Dismissed, Disenfranchised & Demonized, a seminal read about the criminal behaviors employed by systems that Black boys must navigate to survive. In our steadfast commitment to being a voice for marginalized citizens, especially Black boys, Callista Casey will collect stories from Black mothers and publish them in the forthcoming book, The Renaissance of Raising Black Boys. Elevating Black boys to their kingdom throne can't happen without the voices of Black mothers; with them, we can reduce, if not eliminate, the 400-year persistent threat on the lives of these young Kings.
Author Information
I will select eight (represents new beginning) or twelve (represents authority, appointment, and completeness) authors to submit their manuscripts; our preference is to have 12. Authors are chosen based on their ability to provide an impactful message that pushes the elevation of Black boys to their place of authority and their position of completeness. Mothers will share their fears and expectations, but more importantly, they will boldly write a constitution that sets the course for the ascension of Black boys.
Each author is allotted roughly 3,000 words to convey their message.
In addition, to providing a structural blueprint, participation in this project requires a financial investment by each author. At present, that investment is unknown but will be determined collectively. I must stress that authors will not be chosen based on their financial investment but based on the power of their story. I will consult with and support each author through the process of writing their chapter. The Renaissance of Raising Black Boys isn't a project purposed to earn revenue, but one to continue the message ignited in A Marginalized Voice.
